![]() ![]() ![]() Sure it looks cool and may make more sense initially for workflow, but does going this route actually meet your requirements? The Presonus AR8 is an 8x4 interface, not too different than your 18i6. If you're strictly doing studio stuff and don't need for live or rehearsal, I'd probably not go the mixer form factor route. But I most often use my MOTU 828mkIII interface into Logic and use the Presonus FaderPort8 as my DAW controller (with motorized faders). ![]() I've got a Presonus StudioLive 16.4.2 that is the bomb, with a 32x18 interface and all the signal processing/routing that you'd ever want as well as decent mic pres. What a lot of those mixers don't give you is multi tracking capability, esp. It can also do multi-track recording which is a must if you want to actually make a decent mix on an after the fact gig recording. The mixer based approach can you give you slightly more routing options for the signal and *perhaps* better mic preamps than an interface (but not always), plus limited eq, dynamics and fx. My bass player uses an XR18 which is quite serviceable for such a low cost mixer ($581 on Amazon right now). Fortunately, the X32 Rack has 24 total inputs (16 XLR + 6 quarter inch inputs and an integrated stereo input) which has handled anything I have ever had to handle with my own band. Overall, a 4 piece band takes between 15 to 22 inputs depending on the content of your band. Now, without drums you are looking at between 8 to 11 inputs. If all you were doing was a solo acoustic, I would say the ZED 10 Fx is a very good choice (Although the Soundcraft offerings are also very good).Ī 4 piece band is quite a different story.Īlthough I did use my ZED 10 Fx for a 3 piece band once (2 singers vocal mics, 1 guitar cab mic, one kick mic for the 4 XLR's, Bass was direct), that was a very minimalist gig.įor my full 4 piece band I use an X32 Rack and would generally encourage anyone to have a minimum of 16 channels and a bit more for this purpose: ![]()
